Orca Trench Grates and Frames
Orca heavy duty trench grates and frames allow the collection of stormwater runoff with minimum falls in the surrounding slab. Grated trenches are the traditional drainage system and used in conjunction with cast in-situ channel systems for heavy duty commercial or industrial applications. Whereas generally the preferred solution to environmental drainage is polymer concrete modular drainage system, there are situations when particularly wide or shallow channels or other custom channel solutions require a cast in-situ channel approach.
In many applications the stormwater collected in a grated channel system will be collected at a stormwater pit which can be cast in-situ, precast concrete or Orca polymer concrete.
The high open ratio of a grated trench ensures free flow of stormwater into the channel. Security and safety is ensured with bolted fixing of grates. Grating frames are supplied with concrete anchor tabs, which are cast into the surrounding concrete apron. Orca grates and the frames are of steel, galvanised to AS/NZ4680-2006.
For applications where pedestrian traffic is the priority, Orca grates and frames can be supplied with our patented, heelsafe, anti-slip Griptech grating to ensure safety at all times. Stainless grates for marine or similar applications are also available on request. Bike safety requirements are also met with Griptech grates and drainage systems.
Orca Grates and frames are manufactured to AS3996-2019 and with loading classes up to Class D 240kN (equivalent to a load of 24t) for the heaviest of road traffic applications. The testing of grates to this Standard involves a five cycle serviceability loading, with loading then to the required ultimate load.
